Structural integration, is a holistic system of bodywork that uses deep manipulation of the
body's soft tissue to realign and balance the body's myofascial structure. Structural
Integration improves posture, relieves chronic pain, and reduces stress. This can bring relief
from general aches and pains, improve breathing, increase energy, improve self-confidence, and
relieve physical and mental stress. Structural Integration has also been used to treat such specific
physical problems as chronic back, neck, shoulder, and joint pain, and repetitive stress injuries,
including carpal tunnel syndrome. At
Advance Massage & Bodywork Structural Integration
treatment can be utilized as independent sessions to achieve your specific goal or as a system of
work to treat the entire body in a
Series of 10.

Imagine that you are wearing a wetsuit that covers your entire body head to toe.  Now imagine that
wetsuit is a size too small.  The human body has a fascial sheath that envelops our body much like
this image of the wetsuit.  This layer of tissue lies just under the surface of the skin.

One of the goals of Structural Integration is to encourage this layer to open and expand.  In doing so,
we begin to create the space necessary for the major segments of the body to begin shifting into a
more balanced relationship.

The constant pull of gravity, the stress of daily activities and physical injuries can pull the body out of
alignment. The fascia gradually shortens, tightens, and adjusts to accommodate the misalignment.
When the body is out of alignment it creates inefficiency and imbalance resulting in stiffness,
discomfort, and loss of energy.

When a body is aligned and balanced through Myofascial/Structural Integration it moves with greater
ease. It requires less energy to function. Good posture is effortless and breathing is easier. The body
becomes more flexible, more coordinated and performance improves.

What will I experience while receiving this modality of bodywork?

Your therapist will focus on releasing tension from tissue structures of the muscle and fascia (or
connective tissues) with deep, and sometimes intense, strokes. During the session the client may feel
the tissue warming then relaxing in the area that the practitioner is working. Some individuals do
experience momentary discomfort as the practitioner opens up and frees areas that are more
restricted. Appropriate pressure will be applied based on the clients needs and comfort level. During
the sessions the practitioner will help the client to become aware of habitual patterns of movement
and imbalances in their body and will help them toward making changes in these patterns in their daily
life. In addition to immediate relief, the lasting effects of Myofascial/Structural Integration works
towards unlocking the potential of your body to achieve long-lasting results that enable you to get
more out of your life.
